Thomas and Uber Cup Live Broadcast: India at Thomas & Uber Cup: The Asian Games may have been postponed but badminton fans have plenty to cheer for as Thomas & Uber Cup is slated to begin on May 8 in Bangkok. Lakshya Sen and Srikanth Kidambi make India favourites for Thomas Cup while PV Sindhu is expected to star in Uber Cup. India in Thomas-Uber Cup – India has got a favourable and easy draws in both the Thomas and the Uber Cup.

Last year both the men’s and the women’s team from India, made a quarterfinal exit from the tournament.

This year, reaching the knockout stage shouldn’t be a hassle for both the teams

Sindhu, Sen, Srikanth and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj and Shetty were awarded direct entry into the squads for their world rankings inside Top-15.

In the men’s singles, in-form shuttler HS Prannoy has also been included as part of the automatic selection for his consistent impressive recent form at the international circuit.

The lone remaining spot in the singles was won by Priyanshu Rajawat, who claimed the top spot in the men’s singles category, also made his way into the 10-men contingent.

In the men’s doubles, Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun as well as Vishnu Vardhan Goud &
Krishna Prasad Garaga qualified through the selection trials.

In the women’s singles, apart from Sindhu, Aakarshi Kashyap and Ashmita Chaliha, made it to the singles squad after claiming first and second positions respectively in the Badminton selection trials.

14-year-old Unnati Hooda was awarded the fourth spot after she impressed in the selection trials by finishing third. She was selected ahead of the experienced Saina Nehwal, who gave the trials a miss.

Top-3 doubles pairs from the trials–Treesa Jolly-Gayatri P, N Sikki Reddy-Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto-Shruti Mishra made their way into the team.

The five team continental championships serve as qualifying events, with the four semifinalists each from Asia and Europe, and the champions from Africa, Oceania and Pan Am assured of qualification. Remaining spots in the final list of 16 will be based on team rankings.

Note: In case continental championships are not conducted, team ranking (cumulative points of top three singles and top two doubles) will decide the qualifiers.

The Thomas Cup is the prize awarded for the World Men’s Team Championships, while the Uber Cup is the prize for the World Women’s Team Championships.

Most titles

Indonesia are the most successful team in the Thomas Cup with 14 titles, while China are the most successful team in the Uber Cup with 15 titles.
