India on Saturday, won the 100th medal at the Asian Para Games 2023. It is the first time in the history of the multi-sport event, India is achieving this milestone. The 100th medal came in the Men’s 400m – T47 event. Dilip Mahadu Gavit bagged a gold medal to help India achieve the feat.

India’s 100 medal tally includes 26 golds, 29 silver and 45 bronze medals. The country’s previous best medal haul was at the last edition of the Para Games in Jakarta, 2018. 72 medals were won back then, it included 15 golds, 24 silver and 33 bronze.
By breaching the 100-medal mark, Indian para-athletes have emulated the performance of their compatriots at the Asian Games this year. India won a record haul of 107 medals at the 19th edition of the Asian Games just a fortnight ago.

Asian Para Games – Dilip Mahadu Gavit’s historic gold
Starting the day at 99, India got that assured century with Dilip Mahadu Gavit’s performances in the Men’s 400m. He led the race and finished on top of the podium by clocking 49.48 seconds.
He finished ahead of Indonesia’s Nur Ferry Pradana, who came close by clocking 49.82 seconds. It is his personal bets timing and he won the silver. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Marawaka Subasinghe earned the bronze medal. Another Indian in Jasbeer came short of finishing on the podium. He recorded a personal best timing of 50.74 and ended up on the fourth place.
