Asian Games: India add eight medals on eventful day

Indian shooters added two gold medals to India's tally. Palak won the yellow metal in Women's 10m Air pistol individual event.

The Indian women’s hockey team beat Malaysia 6-0 in a one-sided encounter. After that, Kiran Baliyan became the first women’s shot putter to win a medal at the Asian Games after 1951. She had a best throw of 17.36m.

Earlier, Indian shooters added five medals to India’s rich haul in shooting. Aishwary Pratap Singh clinched silver in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions. Earlier, Palak and Esha Singh bagged the gold and silver respectively in Women’s 10m Air Pistol individual event. Aishwary Pratap Singh also won gold in the team event along with Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran with a world record. While Women’s 10m pistol team clinched silver.

There were also two more medals for India. In Tennis, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni settled for silver after losing the final. Women;s squash team won the bronze after losing the semifinal against Hong Kong.

After their 13-0 win against Singapore, India Women will take on Malaysia in Hockey in their second group encounter at the Asian Games. Malaysia, on the other hand, secured an 8-0 victory over Hong Kong China. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 PM IST.

While both the teams are looking to continue their winning momentum, India enter the contest as the favourites. India enjoys a commanding 16-0 lead in the head-to-head record against Malaysia. The last time these two teams faced off was in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022, where India registered an emphatic 9-0 win.
