Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will don jersey no. 3 in the Indian cricket team.

For almost all the cricketers, the India jersey arrives after years of toiling hard in the domestic circuit and proving themselves season after season. They wait for selectors to notice them and hope that opportunity arises often. But Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken a different route altogether.

At 15, he has already become one of the most talked-about names in world cricket. Foreign media are banking on his name to promote an international series; a cricket board had to live telecast ‘A-team’ games just because of Sooryavanshi’s presence. He has smashed IPL records, terrorised bowlers twice his age and forced selectors to make space for him in the Indian T20I side. Yet on Tuesday, all those achievements took a back seat. Because for the first time, Sooryavanshi saw his name on an India jersey.

India jersey finally arrives for Sooryavanshi

In a video shared by the BCCI ahead of India’s T20I tour of Ireland and England, the teenager was handed his Team India kit. The reaction said everything. There was excitement, disbelief and a little bit of relief as well. The dream he had chased since childhood had come true.

“Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice, that dream has now been fulfilled. The biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words.”

“It felt like a dream when I saw that T-shirt. I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes things happen that you never imagined could happen. When it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt.”

Sooryavanshi set to create history

If reports are to be believed, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will make his India debut in the first T20I in Ireland. While the Indian team has flown to Belfast, Sooryavanshi is set to break Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of becoming the youngest Indian player ever.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can make his debut as a 15 years and 91 days old.

Just months ago, he was making waves in age-group cricket. Then came IPL 2026, where everything changed. Opening for Rajasthan Royals, he piled up 776 runs, won the Orange Cap and was named Most Valuable Player. What stood out wasn’t just the numbers but the way he got them. Sooryavanshi attacked from the first ball, taking on seasoned international bowlers without hesitation.

He followed that up with another statement performance for India A, smashing 94 off just 29 balls in the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A. In the process, he recorded the fastest fifty in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.
