‘Saw Brij Bhushan next to her… uske saath kuch galat hua’: Int’l referee confirms

International referee Jagbir Singh reveals about the FIR-mentioned incident in which the WFI chairman allegedly "touched" a wrestler's buttocks

One complainant has stated that in March of last year, as the team posed for a photo at the conclusion of the trials in Lucknow for the Asian Championships, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh “placed his hands on my buttocks” after which she tried to move away. This is mentioned in the FIR filed by six adult wrestlers detailing several incidents of alleged sexual harassment by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

In his statement to the Delhi Police, Jagbir Singh, an international wrestling referee since 2007, who was a few feet away from Brij Bhushan and the complainant, backed up the wrestler’s claims. In an interview with The Indian Express, Jagbir Singh brought up the image and revealed that Delhi police had questioned him regarding it.

Anurag Thakur, the Union Sports Minister, said on Wednesday that the police investigation, which is involving around 125 possible witnesses from four states, is anticipated to be finished on June 15.

Charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh!

The charges of at least three female wrestlers have been confirmed by an Olympian, a gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games, an international referee, and a state-level coach.

“I saw him (Brij Bhushan) standing next to her. She freed herself, pushed away, mumbled and moved away. She was standing next to the president, but then came to the front. I saw how this woman wrestler was reacting and she was uncomfortable. Uske saath kuchh galat hua (Something wrong happened to her). I didn’t see him doing the act but uske haath pair khoob chalte the, idhar aa ja. Idhar khadi ho ja (He used to keep touching wrestlers saying come here, come and stand here). From her (complainant’s) behaviour, it was clear something was wrong that day (during the photo session),” Jagbir said.

Before she could escape and proceed to the front row for the photo, the FIR claims that Singh violently grabbed her by the shoulder.

According to the FIR, Singh’s “highly indecent” and “objectionable” action, which was done without the wrestler’s consent, left her speechless.

Approximately 15 instances of sexual harassment, including 10 instances of inappropriate touching, molestation, which includes running hands over breasts and touching the navel, and several intimidation-related incidents, including stalking – have been detailed in the two FIRs that Delhi Police has filed in response to complaints from seven female wrestlers, one of whom is a minor.
