The 2022 editon of the tournament is just a week away and the wait is almost over. Amidst all the controversies around the tournament, the men’s singles draw has been decided. Though the official draw will be out on Friday, InsideSport takes a look at the top 16 seeds who will be in action at the Grass Court Grand Slam the coming week. For the first time ever since the introduction of the ATP Rankings in 1973, Wimbledon will not have the top two players in the world participating in the tournament. While World No.1 Daniil Medvedev won’t be able to participate following the ban on players from Russia and Belarus, World No.2 Alexander Zverev misses out due to the anke injury he suffered during the French Open.
With their absence, Novak Djokovic, who is the defending champion and is currently ranked No.3 in the world will be the top seed. He will be followed by his arch rival and 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, who will be the second seed. Meanwhile, Casper Ruud for the first time will be the third seed in a Grand Slam following his rise to No.5 in the World rankings.

Djokovic is looking to win his maiden Grand Slam this year following his inability to feature at the Australian Open this year and a quarterfinal exit against Rafael Nadal at the French Open. He will be the favourite to lift the title at Wimbledon.
However, he will face a tough challenge from Nadal. Nadal for the first time in his career has won the first two Grand Slam of the year and he is looking to win his third straight title this year by becoming the champion at Wimbledon. There were concerns about Nadal’s participation in the tournament as he is nursing a foot injury but he has opted to play.
Following Djokovic and Nadal is Casper Ruud, who has had a terrific season so far. He reached his maiden Grand Slam final this year and finished as runner-up by losing against Nadal in the French Open final. Though he is not a specialist on grass, he will look to put a good show in the upcoming Grand Slam.
Following him are Stefanos Tsitsipas and 19-year old Carlos Alcaraz. Both the players had a good season, especially Alcaraz who has won three titles this year and is already touted as the next big thing in Tennis. Tsitsipas meanwhile, is on course to make a strong comeback after bowing out from the fourth round at the French Open.

Following the top 5 seeds are 21-year old up and rising Felix Auger Aliassime, Hubert Hurkacz and Matteo Berrettini, who are the sixth, seventh and eighth seeds respectively. Hurkacz defeated Roger Federer in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon last year and he has made good preparation by winning the Halle Open title this week. Meanwhile, Berrettini has won the Stuttgart Open as well as Queen’s Club championship and is raring to go. Local lad Cameron Norrie and Italian Jannik Sinner complete the Top 10 seeds for the tournament.
The bottom half of the list too has promising names like 11th seed Taylor Fritz, who defeated Rafael Nadal earlier this year to win the Indian Wells title. With Djokovic and Nadal being the only Grand Slam winners, this year there is a big opportunity for a player to win the coveted Grand Slam title for the first time in his career.
The official draws for this year will be unveiled on Friday, 24th June 2022. The tournament will begin from 27th June (Monday) onwards.
