Daniil Medvedev vs Arthur Rinderknech
After winning his first round contest in straight sets, defending champion Daniil Medvedev will take on France’s Arthur Rinderknech in the second round. Medvedev started his title defence at the US Open with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 victory over USA’s Stefan Kozlov. He will look to continues his form in the second round. Arthur Rinderknech made it to the second round of the US Open for the second time in his career. He defeated fellow compatriot Quentin Halys in four sets in the first round.
Andy Murray vs Emilio Nava
Former world number one Andy Murray survived an early scare to beat American wildcard Emilio Nava 5-7 6-3 6-1 6-0 at the U.S. Open on Wednesday to move into the third round of a Grand Slam for only the second time in five years. Murray’s victory also marked the first time since 2016 that he had reached the third round at Flushing Meadows, where he won his maiden Grand Slam title a decade ago. Murray will next meet 13th seed Matteo Berrettini, who beat him in the final of the Stuttgart Open in June.
Nick Kyrgios vs Benjamin Bonzi
Australian Nick Kyrgios powered past Benjamin Bonzi to reach the third round of the U.S. Open with a hard-fought 7-6(3) 6-4 4-6 6-4 win over the Frenchman on Wednesday. The big-serving 23rd seed struck 30 aces and broke Bonzi for a fourth time on match point to end the punishing match under the lights at Louis Amrstrong Stadium.
Maria Sakkari vs Wang Xiyu
Greek third seed Maria Sakkari became the biggest casualty in the women’s draw at the U.S. Open when she fell to a 3-6 7-5 7-5 defeat to unseeded Chinese Wang Xiyu in an adsorbing second-round contest on Wednesday.
Sakkari, a semi-finalist in New York last year, took charge in the early stages and marched into a one-set lead before being let down by a series of unforced errors as Wang claimed her first career victory over a top-10 player.
Coco Gauff vs Elena Gabriela Ruse
12th seed Coco Gauff scuffled a bit on Wednesday but went on to defeat Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-2, 7-6 (4) in a second-round match to move into the third round of the US Open. Ruse was serving for the second set at 40-15 when Gauff turned up the temperature. On the longest rally of the game (22 strokes), she blistered a backhand crossing shot for a winner and showed some real emotion. Ruse subsequently double-faulted to make it 5-all. In the tiebreak, a huge backhand sent her into the win column. Gauff has now doubled up in her 2022 match results, winning 32 against 16 defeats.
Anett Kontaveit vs Serena Williams
Williams defeated World No.2 Anett Kontaveit 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-2 on Wednesday night in front of another huge crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. as she moved into the third round at the US Open 2022.
For the second straight match, Williams’ opponent seemed more unnerved by the momentous circumstances, particularly in critical moments, than she did as Serena was seen more composed and consistent against a far better player ranked 78 spots higher, compared with her first round opponent Danka Kovinic. Serena won the first set via a tie-breaker but couldn’t find momentum in the second set as she was broken thrice by the Estonian second seed. However in the third set, Serena was back at her best as she managed to win the third set to book a spot in last-32.
