US Open 2022 LIVE: As the US Open is all set to get underway on Monday, 29th August, the top Tennis players in the world have set their eyes on the title at the year end Grand Slam. In the Women’s singles, the field is so open that it is very difficult to predict a winner this year. Top seeds like World No.1 Iga Swiatek, defending champion Emma Raducanu, Wimbledon 2022 finalist and Simona Halep will all be in action and are aiming for the year end Grand Sam title. Iga Swiatek
World No.1 Iga Swiatek will enter the US Open this year hoping to replicate her dominance earlier this year. The Polish enjoyed a great first half of the season where she won 37 consecutive matches including the French Open title. Her dream run came to an end at the Wimbledon earlier this year, where she lost to Alize Cornet in straight sets in the third round. Since then she hasn’t shown the same form as she lost to opponents like Carolien Garcia and Beatriz Haddad Maia, who are all outside the Top-10 in the World rankings. She however hopes to end the year on a high and takes on Jasmine Paolini in the first round. Swiatek’s best performance at the US Open so far is a fourth round finish.
Simona Halep
Simona Halep has looked in good touch recently and she enters the US Open as one of the strong contenders for the title. She recently won the Canadian Open title by defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets in the final and that has further made her one of the favourites for the US Open title this year. Halep has been consistent so far this year and will be the seventh seed New York this year. Halep’s best performance at the US Open so far is a semifinal appearance at 2015. She hopes for a much better performance and will look to give a tough fight.
Ons Jabeur
Ons Jabeur has had a terrific year so far as she made her first-ever Grand Slam final this year at the Wimbledon and finished as runner-up. With that, she became the first African or Arab player to reach the final of a Grand Slam in the Open era and even earned a career-high ranking of No. 2 in June much earlier this year. She won the Madrid Open, Berlin Open titles earlier this year and finished as runner up at Charleston Open and Italian Open. Her form in the lead-up to the US Open hasn’t been too impressive as she faced first round exit at Canadian Open and bowed out from the second round at Cincinnati Masters. However she is expected to give a tough fight to her opponents in the year-end Grand Slam.
Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina won her maiden Grand Slam title this year at the Wimbledon and that makes her one of the strong contenders for the Women’s singles title at the US Open. The 23-year old’s best performance so far is a third round appearance at the US Open. She looks to improve that performance this year. Earlier this year she finished as runner up at Adelaide International and it is so far her second best performance this year. She enters US Open after a quarterfinal exit at the Cincinnati Maters. She hopes to make a deep run in the upcoming tournament.
Emma Raducanu
19-year old Emma Raducanu stunned the Tennis world last year at the US Open as she entered the tournament as a qualifier and went on to win the title without dropping a set. A year later she enters the tournament as the 11th seed but she hasn’t had a great season. She suffered numerous injuries and is yet to go past the quarterfinals in any tournament. She is also placed in a very difficult quarter at the US Open this year and begins her campaign against World No.40 Alize Cornet. It remains to be seen whether the teenager can live up to the expectations on her and match her previous year’s performance.
