Rafael Nadal was the last one to join Team Europe for the 2022 Laver Cup as he arrived in London on Thursday morning. As soon as he touched London, the news of his dream pair-up with Roger Federer in the doubles too was confirmed as Laver Cup released the official match line-up for Day 1 of the event.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the game, Rafael Nadal said, “After all the amazing things we shared together on and off the court, to be part of this historic moment is going to be something amazing and unforgettable for me. Super excited. I hope I have a good chance to play at a decent level and hopefully together we can create a good moment and maybe win a match. So let’s see.”

Both the players will be playing in doubles at the Laver Cup for the second time in their career as five years ago during the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2017, they joined hands and played against Team World’s Sam Querrey and John Isner. “Super excited to have Roger with me for one more time is something I am really looking forward to. Very happy for that,” he added.

Roger Federer too expressed his excitement on having players like Nadal and Djokovic by his side for his farewell. “I’ve had some tougher moments as well in the past, being horribly nervous all these years before a match and this one feels a lot more different. I am super excited to have them in our team and not having to play against them on my last match is super special. Playing with Rafa feels really different,” he said.

“Walking out on the court and having a chance to play with the likes of Rafa or Novak in the past has been a wonderful experience for me and to be able to do that one more time, I’m sure it’s going to be wonderful,” he added.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will face Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe during the last tie of the day on Friday at the 02 Arena in London. Andy Murray too will make his Laver Cup debut on Friday as he will play in the singles just before Federer and Nadal’s match and will face Australia’s Alex de Minaur.

Speaking about it, he said, “Tomorrow is going to be an incredible atmosphere, obviously playing in the night session before Roger and Rafa, I think it’s going to be really special. Looking forward to playing De Minaur. It’s not going to be an easy match, he has had an amazing year.”

“Tough match-up for me but my first time playing at the Laver Cup. I’ve watched on TV and want to be part of it, to get an opportunity to do it here in London is going to be great,” he concluded.
