After being in the tour for nearly 15 years, veteran Grigor Dimitrov finally had his moment under the sun. The Bulgarian ended World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz’s campaign at the Shanghai Masters with a come-from-behind victory in the third round. This was his biggest win of the season.
The 32-year old Dimitrov came into the contest after failing to even win a set in three matches against Alcaraz. He even dropped the first set in the contest. However the experienced Bulgarian turned around the contest and went on to win the contest 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Grigor Dimitrov has been playing professional Tennis since 2009. Alcaraz would have been only six years old back then. However he could only win eight ATP titles so far in his career. It includes one Cincinati Masters 1000 title and an ATP Finals title, which is the biggest one of his career.
However his last ATP title victory came back in 2017. Following his win against Alcaraz, he was asked the obvious question of where he has been all these years. “I never left. 15 years already, I’m still here, I’m not going anywhere.”

“I stayed in the match. I think that was the first thing, especially after that first set. 5-4. I was serving very well throughout the whole set. I pushed him to a lot of errors in certain moments, but I don’t know what happened to him at 5-4. He played an amazing game, 5-5, 6-5, and then another amazing game,” added Dimitrov in his post-match speech.
Grigor Dimitrov will next face 22nd seed Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinal on Friday. The winner of the contest will face either fifth seed Andrey Rublev or Ugo Humbert in the semifinal.
