1:11 PM IST: Court adjourns matter till Monday morning- Australian court adjourns Novak Djokovic matter until 10 am Monday in Melbourne. The hearing was supposed to commence at 4 PM IST on Thursday. Djokovic’s legal team also managed to secure an interim injunction preventing authorities to deport the tennis star until at least Monday, when a more substantive hearing is scheduled.
Djokovic, who is currently staying at Park Hotel, has had his appeal lodged in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, with a hearing at 4 pm Australian Time.
1 PM IST: Djokovic enters Quarantine, deportation delayed- Novak Djokovic has been transported to a quarantine facility cum hotel in Melbourne after being denied entry into Australia, while court documents suggest his team have applied for an injunction against the visa cancellation, said a Sky Sports report.
“Mr Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled,” Morrison tweeted on Thursday morning, confirming a previous press release from the Australian Border Force.
“Mr Djokovic failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the entry requirements to Australia, and his visa has been subsequently cancelled,” the Australian Border Force said in a statement.
The Reuters News Agency meanwhile has reported that player would file an injunction to prevent him from being sent back, the source said.

What are Djokovic’s chances of staying in Australia? Professor of Public Law at University of Sydney, Mary Crock, told NCA NewsWire on Thursday – that chances of Djokovic getting any legal relief is minimal.
“He’ll stay there until either he is granted a visa or removed from the country, and that will depend on the application he makes to the Federal Court,” said Professor Crock
“His visa will have been cancelled either on the basis that he didn’t meet the entry requirements, or he made some false statement.
“He doesn’t have the right to appeal on the merits of anything – he can’t say ‘I’m the best tennis player, let me in’.
“He has to show the cancellation of his visa was done in a legal error.”

Novak Djokovic Visa Cancelled: Djokovic landed in Melbourne at 11.30pm on Wednesday night but would not have been aware of the drama unfolding as he was in the air.
The world number one was held in the city’s airport for several hours before border forces announced he had not met entry rules and would be deported.
It came a day after he was granted an exemption from vaccination rules to play in the Australian Open.
After state government officials refused to support his visa application due to his unvaccinated status, he was housed at a Melbourne house with two police officials guarding him.
Novak Djokovic confirmed his attendance in the first Grand Slam of the year after he was granted a vaccination exemption. The Serbian has been unclear on his stance on Covid-19 vaccine and skipped the season opener ATP Cup due to the same.

How the entire episode unfolded? After landing in Melbourne on Wednesday, the airport authorities noticed problems with his paperwork and sought the Victoria government’s permission to approve his entry.
However, Victoria’s acting sports minister, Jaala Pulford, said late Wednesday that her state had rejected a request for help and visa approvals were a matter for the federal government.
As per a report by Express.UK, Djokovic was housed at a Melbourne residence was being guarded by two police officers.
“The federal government has asked if we will support Novak Djokovic’s visa application to enter Australia. We will not be providing Novak Djokovic with individual visa application support to participate in the 2022 Australian Open Grand Slam,” Pulford said in a message on Twitter.

The Australian newspaper said Djokovic was seeking to enter the country on a work visa which “was believed to require the support from the Victorian government”.
Melbourne’s The Age newspaper said the federal Border Force had contacted the Victorian government when they realised Djokovic’s team had requested “the wrong type of visa”.
The Age said Djokovic was likely to be allowed off his plane and into Melbourne but the issue was delaying his entry.
Hours before that, Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison gave a stern warning to Novak Djokovic. He said if the tennis star failed to provide satisfactory medical evidence behind his not getting vaccinated, he will be sent back from Australia.
“We await his presentation and what evidence he provides us to support that. If that evidence is insufficient, then he won’t be treated any different to anyone else and he’ll be on the next plane home. There should be no special rules for Novak Djokovic at all. None whatsoever,” Scott Morrison said.

Australians reacted with fury on learning that vaccine-sceptic Djokovic had received a medical exemption from having a Covid vaccine in order to play at this month’s Open.
Tournament chief Craig Tiley said the defending champion had been given “no special favour” but urged him to reveal why he got the exemption to soothe public anger.
As per guidelines, all participants at the first Grand Slam of 2022, which starts on January 17, must be vaccinated against Covid-19 or have a medical exemption, which is granted only after assessment by two panels of independent experts.
Djokovic announced late Tuesday he was en route to Melbourne with “an exemption permission”, ending the drawn-out saga over whether he would defend his title.
