After a strong start from Nissanka and Karunaratne, Mendis grew on it to form partnerships with other batters. Hasaranga and Shanaka, who were farther down the line, made sure they ended strong with a flurry.
A number of issues were exposed by Afghanistan’s lacklustre bowling performance, and the absence of the ace bowler from the team. These are issues that Afghanistan has to solve in this game. Almost every bowler averaged more than 6 runs per over. Gurbaz once again departed early and let the crowd down as Afghanistan failed to exert enough pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers during the run chase.
