Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra brought India’s fifth gold at the ongoing Asian Games in the women’s 50m 3 rifle positions on Wednesday, after shooting a score of 469.6 in the final. With this solid showing, she shattered the previous WORLD RECORD held by Great Britain’s Seonaid McIntosh (467), which the latter had achieved in Baku earlier this year. The joy of the gold medal was doubled as Ashi Chouksey too finished with a bronze medal in the event, scoring 451.9 points in the final.

In the final, both Sift and Ashi had maintained a solid lead throughout and were in the gold and silver medal positions, respectively. In the kneeling round, Sift had 154.6, while her compatriot managed 152.5. It became 312.5 at the end of being prone to Sift, and 311.6 for Ashi. It was in the last shot of the standing position, where the eliminations take place, that she shot a poor 8.9 to end up with bronze only. China’s Qiongyue Zhang produced a shot of 10.5 under pressure, to upgrade her medal to silver.
