Sadio Mane: Liverpool’s season has been one to forget. They have not managed to make a mark in any of the competitions that they are playing in. They were knocked out in both domestic cups and also by Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16. They are currently 6th in the Premier League and if they don’t pick up their pace, they will miss out on the UCL. But Andy Robertson was quick to deny that Sadio Mane leaving the club had an adverse effect on Liverpool’s slump in form. Follow Liverpool FC LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Mane had been an integral part of Liverpool for a good part of the last 6 years. Firmino, Salah, and Mane were a deadly trio and have helped Liverpool win a host of trophies. The 30-year-old made the big-money move to Bayern Munich last summer after a successful six-year stint at Anfield. Mane won every major honour during his time on Merseyside, scoring 120 goals in 269 matches.

His move away to Bayern Munich has definitely been a big miss for the Reds. Mane’s partnership with Andy Robertson was quite lethal and was described as the ‘best in the world’ by Mane in 2020. However, Robertson doesn’t believe that Mane’s absence and Liverpool’s downfall are connected.

Andy Robertson on Sadio Mane absence

When quizzed if Mane’s loss had been key to Liverpool, Robertson said, ‘To be honest, no. Don’t get me wrong, I had a fantastic relationship with Sadio in terms of me and him down the left-hand side for five years. He was a joy to play with, every game. I loved playing with him, we linked really well. He helped me going the back the way I helped him going forward.’

He continued, ‘And yeah we linked up really well. When he left, there was probably no-one more gutted than me because of the relationship we had. But we’ve got fantastic players that can play in their positions. We brought in Darwin [Nunez], who has been really good to start. We’ve got Luis Diaz who has obviously been injured and re-injured and things like that, which is difficult. Jots [Diogo Jota] can play there, who’s got injured.’

Concluding this thoughts, Robertson said, ‘We have been a little bit unlucky with injuries, I think once we get them back fully fit then yeah. Look, Sadio was a wonderful player, a Liverpool legend but he wanted to go and he went to Bayern Munich and we wish him all the best. We need to pick up the pieces and I think we’ve got the players to do that.’

After crashing out of all the Cups this season, their only hope of silverware is winning the Premier League. In all honesty, though, that would be an impossible task as they are 24 points behind League leaders, Arsenal.

Even though they have recruited a couple of players, they have looked off the pace this season. Klopp will be hoping to gather his troops and build strongly for the 2023/24 season now.
