South Africa head coach Mark Boucher and director of cricket Graeme Smith both are in the firing line as an enquiry on their conduct begins next week. As per Sport 24, Mark Boucher has been charged with gross miss conduct during his time as a player and as a coach of the South African team.
Boucher was found to be racially abusive to former teammate Paul Adams and former assistant coach Enoch Nkwe’s resignation is also set to be the subject of his hearing. Nkwe quit in August 2021, claiming he had been “undermined” and reduced to being a “cones boy” in a toxic working environment.
Meanwhile, Graeme Smith’s charges relate to matters of his appointment at CSA and procedural flaws in his appointment of Mark Boucher as Proteas head coach. Smith opted to appoint former teammate Boucher instead of interim team director Enoch Nkwe in December 2019, without advertising the post or interviewing candidates.

Reportedly, Smith was given the right to hire and fire those who reported indirectly to him as long as he consulted with then acting CEO Jacques Faul. The CSA had also agreed to Smith’s 35% salary increase demand, from R4 million to R5.4m
Boucher’s conduct will particularly be viewed in a great deal and is likely to be fired from his role for his actions against Paul Adams and his “lack of remorse” for his actions. Boucher, in an affidavit also accused CSA of not appropriately educating players in the immediate post-apartheid era. CSA damned Boucher in their charge-sheet response, stating that he conducted himself in a racist or subliminally racist manner.
Boucher is also accused of only wanting to deal with the white players’ concerns on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) issue of taking the knee and creating division and alienating players and the team by requesting the black manager deal with black players. As things stand, The CSA have found him guilty and should make the announcement as soon as the series against India ends on Sunday.
