Rishabh Pant Form: World Cup 2023 – India wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant’s flop show continued in Christchurch. He was dismissed for just 10 in 16 balls. With this Rishabh’s horrid time in ODIs continues. However, what Pant said before the start of the 3rd ODI caught everyone’s attention. Pant had hit back at the critics in typical “cheeky” Pant style. This didn’t go down well with the cricket fans who trolled him for Big talks and no showing with the bat. IND vs NZ: Time RUNNING OUT for Rishabh Pant, 4 matches could DECIDE the fate of young keeper in World Cup 2023, K Srikkanth asks Pant to play Domestic, Check WHY?

Pant has been struggling for runs on the current New Zealand tour, but believes that he has age on his side and is a good fit for ODIs, at the number 5 position. The 24-year-old reminded the critics about his age, and the role he needs to perform for the team.

The umbrella has been used a lot on this tour. It has rained only on match days! I would like bat at the top in T20Is, and at No. 4 or 5 in ODIs. Your game plan changes accordingly… I don’t have a bad record in white-ball cricket. I’m just 24 at the time. There is no down time now, with us travelling to Bangladesh directly from here! Pant said before the start of the match.

Pant’s scores haven’t been great off late. He has registered scores of 15, 125, 0, 56, & 18 are the scores Pant in the last five ODIs. While his ODI numbers are marginally better in T20Is, it is the consistency that he has lacked.

Overall, in 11 ODIs in 2022, the southpaw has scored 213 runs. In between one few big scores, there is always a lean patch and a needless shot that makes experts and fans frustrated. In the first ODI against New Zealand, Pant played an unnecessary pull shot after doing all the hard work to reach 15 runs.

Rain has frustrated the fans, as much as it has the cricketers too. Pant has had limited chances to showcase his talent with the bat. However, he is not worried about the scores, but is focusing more on what is expected out of him from the team management.

It rains only on match days and we can’t do much. I would choose to bat in the top order in T20Is, number 4-5 in ODIs and in Test I’m batting at 5. Yes, the game plan changes when you’re batting lower down the order but at the same time you have to bat where the team wants you to,” Pant added.
Over the last few games, there has been a trend in Pant’s dismissals. He plays the wrong shot at the wrong time, not accelerates when needed. In addition, he goes in the shell, when rotating strike rate is what needs to be done.
However, one thing that separates Pant from the rest, apart from his unorthodox style is his self confidence. He isn’t too worried about what the outside noise talks about him. He also doesn’t think that he needs to change his game to be successful.
There’s no need to premeditate in ODIs, only in T20s you need to premeditate. I don’t look at numbers, yes my T20I numbers are not great but I’m still 24 and there’s no time to compare. The keeping drills are the same regardless of the format. There’s no down time at all, I am going straight to Bangladesh from here,” Pant revealed
With Sanju Samson as an alternative, breathing down his neck, Pant is under serious pressure. Former players and cricket experts have asked him to take a break and correct his flaws in domestic cricket. The Indian selectors think otherwise, who has decided to send him to Bangladesh, for probably his last opportunity to keep his spot in ODI squad.
Given the kind of player Pant is, he needs just one innings. The question is – when will that breakthrough innings arrive?
