Babar Azam continued his stellar form in 2022 as he slammed his fifth century of the year in a stunning captain’s knock in Galle. Pakistan were reduced to 85/7 when Babar fought a lone battle to score his seventh test ton.
Azam’s knock puts him only second behind Jonny Bairstow for most centuries in 2022. The England wicketkeeper has hit a purple patch, scoring 6 centuries since the turn of the year. Former England captain Joe Root also has five centuries this year, but the 31-year-old has played 8 more innings than the Pakistan skipper.

The calendar year’s record for the most centuries stands with Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 12 in 1998. Former India captain Virat Kohli scored 11 centuries twice in a calendar year, in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Ricky Ponting also scored 11 hundreds back in 2003.
Babar Azam, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root will all have the chance to chase Sachin’s record for over two decades. Many have come close and the trio would hope to eclipse the rare feat and continue their form for the remaining five months of 2022.

However, Babar Azam went on to go and achieve this record 4 innings faster. Babar took 228 innings to get this wonderful feat.
