Philippe Clement’s side were at it from the off and could’ve stormed after just six minutes when Youssouf Fofana’s drilled low shot had to be kept out by Gianluigi Donnarumma. It took a last-gasp tackle from Marquinhos to deny Jean Lucas having a tap-in four minutes later but Wissam Ben Yedder was the one to break the deadlock midway through the first half.
Fofana burst down the right and picked out the Monaco captain in the middle, who produced a sublime back-heeled shot to beat Donnarumma at his near post.
Kylian Mbappé will wonder how he didn’t pull his side level early into the second half when a rebounded shot fell to his feet in the penalty area but his effort was somehow cleared off the line by Benoît Badiashile.

PSG would learn to regret that miss as Kevin Volland doubled Monaco’s advantage 22 minutes from time, turning home Ruben Aguilar’s cross while on the fall. Ben-Yedder then added some gloss to the scoreline, dispatching his second from the spot after Presnel Kimpembe had fouled Volland in the box.
The defeat shouldn’t affect the title hopes of Mauricio Pochettino’s side too much with the league leaders still holding a 15-point lead at the top. That comfortable victory moves Monaco up to seventh in the table, just 3 points off fifth-placed Strasbourg.
PSG remain 15 points ahead of the chasing pack, but performances as underwhelming as that may grant second-placed Marseille with the ambition of pulling off the impossible and catching the runaway leaders. Unlikely of course, but PSG were woeful today, and didn’t play like a side fighting for a title.
