MAJOR injury scare for India 24 hours before WTC Final, Rohit Sharma LEAVES practice after thumb injury

Rohit, who was batting in the nets, was struck by a ball and was attended by the Physio.

IND vs AUS: Team India received a major injury scare just 24 hours before the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was hit in the left thumb while batting in the nets. The Indian opener was then attended by the physio. Rohit then returned to the nets but didn’t continue and after a brief chat with head coach Rahul Dravid, left the session.

The extent of the injury has not been revealed and no official statement is made. Notably, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and other key batters skipped the optional practice session but Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav turned up and hit the nets. Ashwin focused more on his batting in the final practice session.

Notably, India has been struggling with injuries before the start of the summit clash. The Men in Blue are already without pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer due to respective injuries and any further injuries would really dent their hopes of lifting their first ICC trophy since 2013.

The WTC Final 2023 will start on Wednesday at The Oval, London.

Team India Squad for the WTC final: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan.

Standby Players: Yashaswi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Mukesh Kumar
