Laver Cup 2022: Rafael Nadal ‘super excited’ for Roger Federer return at Laver Cup
What is LAVER CUP? The Laver Cup, a series which pits a collection of players from Europe and the rest of the World against each other. The edition this year will see the end of an era with Federer playing his last ever match.
The cup is being held at the indoor hard courts of the O2 arena in LONDON.
What will be TEAM EUROPE’s Line-UP?
- Federer, who will no doubt take the headlines, will play alongside 2022 double grand slam winner Nadal and Wimbledon champion Djokovic.
- It will mark a historic occasion where the ‘big three’ will play together for the LAST TIME time ever.
- Former World No1 Andy Murray – who at one point made it to the ‘big four’ – will also be involved.
- US Open runner-up Casper Ruud and Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas will complete Team Europe’s lineup.
- The Team Europe will be captained and vice-captained by Björn Borg and Thomas Enqvist respectively.
Roger Federer Dream Team: Team Europe have won the tournament for the last five years running, and with a line like they have this year, it is difficult to see that streak ending.
The big three have an astonishing 63 Grand Slam titles between them – almost as many as the next six players’ grand slam wins combined.
Global tennis paid tribute to the man many consider to be the best to ever grace the court, with many expressing sadness and gratitude to the 41-year-old’s accomplishments and impact.
Federer’s final professional outing will be between September 23 – 25, the dates on which the Laver cup will run.

- ⦿ Saturday 24 September: 11:30pm, Match 7 (singles), followed by Match 8 (doubles)
- ⦿ Sunday 25 September: 12pm, Match 9 (doubles), followed by Match 10 (singles), Match 11 (singles), Match 12 (singles) and a Decider, Match 13 (doubles) if points are even

The Laver Cup is a hard-court tennis tournament played between Team Europe and Team World.
Named after Australian tennis great, Rod Laver, the Laver Cup was started in 2017 and it involves six players from Team Europe and Team World.
This year, the Laver Cup would witness the big four of the tennis world-Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray come together to represent Team Europe.
After Federer’s RETIREMENT announcement, it is clear that tennis fans is unlikely to see these four superstars in action together once again – so LAVER CUP will be the last opportunity to do so.
