“If I get a chance, will give my best”, former PKL winning captain eager to get picked in auction

Having gone out of favour in the last few seasons, the star raider eyes redemption and hopes to get picked by a team in the upcoming auction

The Pro Kabaddi League auction is just a few hours away. More than 500 players will be going under the hammer as they expect to fetch a good bid and be part of a side for the Season 10 of the league. While teams will look to add energetic youth to the teams, some veterans, who have gone out of favour in recent times are also eyeing a redemption of sorts. Former Pro Kabaddi League winning skipper Rohit Kumar is one such player who is looking forward to the upcoming auction.

Rohit Kumar wants to produce his best performance

Rohit Kumar led the Bengaluru Bulls to the title in the 2018-19 edition of the league. However the 33-year old’s performance gradually declined in the upcoming editions and he even went unsold at last year’s auction. He is now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming auction and hopes he would make it this time around.

“I am really excited about the Player Auction and I am eager to be a part of a team. Unfortunately, I didn’t perform very well in the last two seasons. However, I am fully prepared for the next season and my confidence is high. If I get a chance to play in this year’s PKL Season, I will certainly produce my best,” Rohit said in a an interview to the official website of the Pro Kabaddi League.

He made his debut in the league in 2016. Playing or Patna Pirates, he scored 102 raid points to help the side clinch its first-ever title in that season. He also went on to receive the Most Valuable Player award. “The competition got off to a great start nine years ago and it’s getting bigger with every season,” he added.

“Being on television was a big deal for us”

Speaking about his debut season, Rohit Kumar went on to say, “I was a bit nervous when I started playing in PKL as I played in front of a large audience and television cameras for the first time. But I got used to the atmosphere and adapted to it as I played more games. The league being broadcast on national television was a big deal for us.”

“Now, wherever we go, people recognize us and ask for photographs. Once I met a fan who even had a tattoo of my face on his shoulder. The Pro Kabaddi League gave kabaddi players a new lease of life in 2014,” he added.

Rohit Kumar was part of the Telugu Titans in 2021. Despite being unsold in the previous edition. He was later added to the Gujarat Giants squad and played a handful of games. The auction for Season 10 will take place on 9th and 10th October. The league will begin on 2nd December 2023.
