One of the two debutants this season is the Lucknow Super Giants which is owned by Sanjiv Goenka, the MD of the RPSG groups. Lucknow Super Giants headed by KL Rahul had one of the best auctions in comparison with the other teams. Sanjiv Goenka along with Gautam Gambhir made some tactical and strategic buys that could potentially lead them to the title in IPL 2022.

Krunal Pandya who was released from the Mumbai Indians, ahead of the IPL auction, went under the hammer for a base price of 2 Crores was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for a whopping price of 8.25 Crores, despite the playing having a poor season in IPL 2021. The LSG officials however banked on the player’s experience, all-rounder skill, and ability to finish the game and paid the high price.
“I wouldn’t blanket-value one type of cricketer with the value of another type,” Andy Flower said to the Times of India. “In Krunal’s case, we targeted the individual. He has loads of IPL experience, is a very useful spin option and can bat at No. 5. It was a first for me, planning with Gautam Gambhir (team mentor), Vijay Dahiya (assistant coach) and KL (Rahul). I’m glad all the planning was on point,” he added.

“In the auction, it was a conscious effort to go for spinners, particularly multi-utility spinners. That’s also worked out well. The team looks balanced,’ Sanjiv Goenka told Times of India.
- Krunal Pandya has earned a total of 47.45 Crores in the IPL.
- He joined Mumbai Indians in 2016 with a salary cap of 2 crores and had the same salary the next year in 2017.
- In 2018 the Mumbai outfits skyrocketed his salary to 8.8 Crores and Pandya earned the money every year till 2021.
- In 2022 he joins Lucknow Super Giants where he will earn 8.2 crores.
- In IPL 2021 he played 13 matches, where he scored 143 runs and scalped 5 wickets.
