Prithvi Shaw an ideal replacement for KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma
With Rohit and Rahul missing from the action, Prithvi Shaw is the ideal option in the opening department. With the T20 game changing fast, the Men in Blue require an opening batter who takes charge on the bowlers right from the word go. Shaw is someone who does not take much time to settle and tries to dominate the proceedings in the field restrictions.
Shaw has a strike-rate of 147.45 in IPL.
Shaw last played for India in a T20I in July 2021 while played a Test back in December 2019.
The right-handed batter is consistently scoring runs in the domestic circuit.
Shaw has also worked on his fitness stating that he reduced 7-8kg weight since the IPL earlier this year.
The 23-year-old might get a chance against Sri Lanka to showcase his talent and cement his place in the Indian squad.
Rahul Tripathi is another name who has patiently waited for his chance to don the Indian jersey. However, the right-handed batter has warmed the benches so far. Tripathi received his maiden T20I call up against Ireland earlier this year, but he did not made his debut in that series. With Virat Kohli also rested in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Tripathi can be an ideal candidate to bat at the number three position.
Speaking about his numbers in IPL, the 31-year-old has played 76 matches and has amassed 1798 runs at an astounding strike rate of 140. Tripathi also has ten fifties to his name and looks comfortable against both spin and pace bowling.

“The old committee will select the Sri Lanka white ball squad. As of now, it doesn’t look like Rohit Sharma’s finger will heal enough before the T20Is and in that case, Hardik will lead the side. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, his T20I days seem to be numbered,” a BCCI source told PTI.
