Defending 212, Bhuvneshwar Kumar ensured that India had no concerns in their final Asia Cup clash toppling the Afghanistan top order for peanuts in Dubai. The 32-year-old swung the ball both ways and Afghanistan batsmen fell like a pack of cards in their chase. Bhuvi got the first four wickets of the game, with Afghanistan reeling at 9/4 at one stage in the powerplay.
Afghanistan have impressed in the tournament with their hard-hitting approach but the likes of Hazartullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Najibullah Zadran all went without scoring amid the Bhuvi storm. He later returned to dismiss Azmatullah Omarzai to complete his maiden five-wicket haul in T20Is.
It is Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s best bowling figures in T20 cricket, and the second best by an Indian. Deepak Chahar’s 6/7 vs Sri Lanka tops the list. The 32-year-old now also has 84 wickets in T20Is, the most by an Indian in the format. Bhuvneshwar went past fellow teammate Yuzvendra Chahal who has 83 to his name.
