Jelena Ostapenko bounced back from the brink of defeat in the final set to claim a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over unseeded Shelby Rogers in the BNP Paribas Open quarterfinals. World No. 24 Ostapenko wins over Hsieh Su-Wei, Yulia Putintseva, Iga Swiatek and Rogers to seal her third semi-final appearance of 2021, setting up her clash against Azarenka. The 2017 French Open champion is yet to a semi-final this season and will hope for the run to continue.

As for Victoria Azarenka, the two-time champion charged past 19th-seeded Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the semifinals. The Belarusian will be also be playing in her third semi-final of the year and will be hoping to make it her third win at the competition. She is yet to drop a set at the tournament but will face a stiff challenge in Ostapenko. Ostapenko lost her only previous meeting with Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 7-6(4) in the first round of Roland Garros 2019, and the latter will be aiming to make it two wins in two against Latvian.
