A recent security incident at Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto has once again raised alarms across the Japanese gaming industry. On May 12, 2026, police authorities arrested a 27-year-old unemployed man from Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture, in connection with a severe bomb threat.
Japanese Police Search Nintendo Headquarters After Bomb Threat
As per the information provided by the authorities, the letter was mailed on March 16, 2026. Upon receipt of the warning, the Nintendo Company notified the local police officials immediately.
The police force conducted a thorough investigation of the headquarters, along with the surrounding area, to ensure the safety of the public. It was concluded after the search that there was no bomb or any other suspicious object found within the building.
There were no casualties or any property damage recorded during the operation.
Police later arrested the suspect on charges of forcible obstruction of business. During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to sending the threatening letter. Investigators are now working to understand the motive behind the incident.

Nintendo Has Faced Similar Threats Before
This is not the first time that Nintendo has had to confront severe security threats. Nintendo has been facing a similar issue from August to November 2023, during which there were numerous threatening emails submitted through the Nintendo website.
Given these ongoing attacks, there was nothing else for Nintendo to do other than to call off its immensely popular Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo game show. Other events within the esports genre were also affected, namely the delay of the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals.
The perpetrator behind these acts committed in the year 2023 received a suspended jail time penalty.
With the increase in popularity of esports and gaming contests around the world, the issue of security has now become a matter of discussion among companies and gaming contest organizers.
