Good news for fans emerged from India’s pre-match press conference, where the Batting coach Sitanshu Kotakh confirmed that Virat Kohli is fully fit and will be playing in the next match.

“Virat Kohli is fit to play. He has come for practice and is good to go,” Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.

However, Kotak did not disclose whom Kohli will replace in the Playing XI.

Examining Kohli’s ODI record at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, the right-handed batter has featured in three matches, scoring 118 runs at an average of 29.50. He has registered one half-century, with his highest score of 85 coming off 81 balls against the West Indies in December 2019.

India’s chase of 249 in the first ODI got off to a shaky start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma fell early, reducing the team to 19/2. However, Shreyas Iyer played a counterattacking knock of 59 off 36 balls, stabilizing the innings and keeping India on course.

After the match, Iyer revealed that his selection in the playing XI was a last-minute decision due to Kohli’s injury. Now, with Kohli fit to return, the team faces a tough selection call on who will make way.
