Throughout the T20 World Cup -- there were rumours that Pakistan could replace Salman Ali Agha as skipper.

As it usually the case with the PCB and the Pakistani team, a failure in any ICC event leads to a few high-profile sackings. This time too, the writing was on the wall for the duo of Salman Ali Agha and Mike Hesson – after PAK failed to reach the semis of the T20 World Cup 2026. In fact, when PAK was alive in the tournament, there were murmurs, that Shadab Khan could replace Agha as the T20 skipper.

Salman Ali Agha to stay PAK T20 skipper

But it seems that the PCB wants to break the trend and wants to look good. As per a report in GeoSuper.tv, the duo of Agha-Hesson are here to stay. Further Shaheen Shah Afridi has been retained as the ODI skipper. Afridi and the coach have been ordered to focus on preparations for the 2027 World Cup.

The only change will come in the Test setup, where Azhar Mahmood has resigned from the position, and Sarfaraz Ahmed has come in. The High Performance Director Aaqib Javed stays too. But Aleem Dar has resigned from the position of a selector and will be replaced soon.

Mike Hesson to remain Pakistan coach

As far as PAK team’s campaign is concerned, they went on to lose against India in a poor fashion — by 61 runs. One of their Super 8 matches against New Zealand was washed out, which further worsened their campaign. Post that, a loss against England followed. Against Sri Lanka, they had to win by a certain margin to keep the NRR is check, but that did not happen as well.

Now Pakistan is due to play three-match ODI series against Bangladesh — from March 11. Babar Azam has been sacked from the team, in a format that he favors the most.
