Rohit Sharma joins David Warner to achieve this Feat in ODI World Cup

Rohit Sharma also completed a quickfire fifty against Afghanistan in World Cup match in Delhi on Wednesday.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma etched his name to record books once again as he became the joint-fastest to amass 1,000 runs in ODI World Cup history. Rohit joined Australia opener David Warner as he also completed 1,000 runs in just 19 innings. Rohit has taken the top spot when it comes to the Indian batters. Apart from Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli have reached the 1000-run mark in the marquee event.

Rohit has an average of 60 in World Cup

Rohit took just 19 innings to complete 1,000 runs at the event as he equaled Australia’s David Warner, who took as many innings. The duo now tops this list. Warner accomplished the milestone in Australia’s opening WC match against India. Sachin Tendulkar was the previous fastest Indian to 1,000 WC runs (20 innings). Notably, Rohit averages over 60 with the bat in the tournament.

Earlier, Afghans won the toss and opted to have a bat first in Delhi. The Indian side did well to restrict the visitors to just 272 runs in their 50 overs. For Afghanistan, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was pick of the batters as he completed a fifty with the bat. On the other hand, Bumrah scalped four wickets with the ball.

“Was a good win for us, very important to get that momentum at the start of the tournament. It is about absorbing pressure and taking the right decision on the field. There will be a spell from the opposition where you will have to absorb pressure. Leading up to the tournament we had played such games. You have got players with different skill sets in our team, Rohit said after his match-winning knock.

“They bring different attributes of the game to the team and it puts you in good positions as a team when you have that. We have got guys who can play fearless cricket with bat and guys who can absorb like the last game. (Asked about playing Pakistan and the talk around it) For us it’s crucial that we don’t worry about external factors and just look at things we can control,” he added.
