IPL 2026: Josh Inglis scored 85 from 33 against CSK on a pitch, where other batters struggled to cross even 20 runs.

Josh Inglis, playing only his second match of the IPL 2026 season, went on to score a whirlwind 85 from 33 deliveries against CSK on Sunday, hitting 10 fours and 6 sixes. While many of the cricket fans questioned the move by LSG, to buy Inglis for 8.60 Cr, when he was not going to be available for major chunk on the tournament… In hindsight, it MAY have been the right decision.

Third-fastest 50 for LSG

Yes, he could not create any impact, and was not available entire March, April, due to his marriage, but as soon as he came into the side, his impact was instant. On a slowish Chepauk wicket, where rest of the batters struggled to get going, Inglis was a class apart, and scored his runs at a strike-rate of 257.

Mitchell Marsh, his opening partner, who had scored a ton in the last match, could manage 10 in 10. Nicholas Pooran made 1 from 3, and Rishabh Pant 15 from 12. What the 31-year-old managed to do right from the very start of his innings was, he picked his areas to hit and was not tentative in his approach. He also used his feet well against the spinners.

As a result, he smashed 15 runs from the very first over of Akeal Hosein. The story did not stop there, as he added another 18 runs in Hosein’s over, followed by 16 in Anshul Kamboj’s. who happens to be the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2026. And needless to say, he broke a few records along the way.

He brought up his 50 in just 17 deliveries, which is the third-fastest for LSG ever. The record for fastest belongs to Nicholas Pooran, who achieved the milestone in 15 vs RCB in 2023. In fact, this was his second fifty in the tournament ever. His innings also helped LSG achieve their highest Powerplay score — 91, in all editions. Their previous best of 90, against MI had also come this season.

Why Josh Inglis could be the good long-run choice?

The owners at LSG obviously saw the value in the player, that an average cricket fan did not. If Josh Inglis can come in and help the team get explosive right at the top, along with Mitchell Marsh, can serve the team for long, he is a great bet. He plays in only one gear, and IPL career strike-rate stands at a staggering 181, across 13 matches.
