‘I would have given up..’: Dipika Pallikal recalls husband Dinesh Karthik’s cricketing journey in heartwarming video

Meanwhile DK's mentor Abhishek Nayyar laid out the attributes that made Dinesh Karthik special.

Four-time medallist at the Commonwealth Games Dipika Pallikal praised her husband Dinesh Karthik for persevering through difficult moments in his career. In a video released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team on their social media channels, people ranging from his RCB teammate Virat Kohli, his mentor Abhishek Nayyar to his wife Dipika are seen talking about DK.

Dipika and Karthik got married back in 2015, and they’ve been successful in their respective fields ever since. While Dipika was winning medals at the CWG, Asian Games, and World Championships, Karthik’s career was filled with many highs and lows.

The never-give-up attitude has always been there: Dipika

I think when things are meant to be, they happen. When we met in 2013, it was very fast we knew that we wanted to spend our lives with each other and I am guessing everything clicked,” Dipika said in a video on RCB’s social media.

One of the things I have really learned from him is that if he doesn’t do well, he is dropped from the team, it’s just two or three days when he is in a lull, and then he is back on his feet, thinking about what to do next.

I feel that if anyone else was in that position, a lot of people would have given up long back. Even me, I am an athlete, seeing him in different positions in his career, if I was him, I would definitely have given up. But I think the do-or-die or never-give-up attitude has always been there,” Dipika said.

At the stage where DK is now, he is very content with what he has done, what he has achieved. That’s the most important thing about any athlete. It’s not going to be easy moving away from the game because this is all he has done all his life. But he is a person that, as long as he is content, he is ready to move on in life. So, he has done well for himself and his family, and he just has to be proud of it,” Dipika added.

Nayyar recalls DK’s journey

Meanwhile his mentor Abhishek Nayyar laid out the attributes that made Dinesh Karthik special.

The one thing that DK is really good at is once he decides he will do something, he takes it upon himself to follow it to the T. He is not someone who will question what he is told,” Nayyar said.

Karthik’s contribution in Kohli’s growth

Virat Kohli recalled a time when Karthik sat him down and gave him an honest opinion about his batting at a time when Kohli was struggling for form.

I’ve had some really nice and interesting conversations with him. He is a very wise man, has great knowledge about a lot of things, not just cricket. In 2022 when I did not have a great IPL season, I was really struggling for confidence. He sat me down and gave me a very honest explanation of how he is seeing things. It helped me a lot,” Kohli said.
