“From 1992 to 2023” Take a look at the Grand journey of Cricket World Cup Mascots

The ICC recently introduced the mascots for the upcoming World Cup as the fans named them as 'Blaze' and 'Tonk'

The 2023 Cricket World Cup is just a few days away. Meanwhile, the ICC recently introduced the mascots for the coming event named “Blaze and ‘Tonk’. However, the history behind these mascots goes long back to 1992. In this article, we will take a look at unique characters who add a unique charm to the tournament itself.

‘Twizza’ (1992 WC)

The first mascot to be ever introduced in the World Cup history was named ‘Twizza’. The character represented the new and innovative spirit of the 1992 WC. It was also the first giant step to change the view of the game at the global stage with coloured jerseys and white ball being used for the first time in the mega event. To note, Pakistan under the leadership of Imran Khan lifted the trophy for the first time.

‘Wills the Elephant’ (1996 WC)

Wills the Elephant was the mascot for the 1996 Cricket World Cup. He made a big contribution to the overall fan experience for the event. Wills signified the spirit of cricket as he was not merely a symbol but a source of entertainment for the young fans who shared love for the sport.

“Willow” (1999 WC)

The 1999 edition saw “Willow” as its mascot. Willow was a pink-cheeked boy who resembled “Yorker” another mascot which was simply a white cricket ball with a hat. The tournament also marked the start of Australian dominance in the 50-over World Cup.

‘Dazzler’ (2003 WC)

Dazzler was one of the most loved mascots in ICC World cup. In the 2003 World Cup hosted by South Africa, Dazzler was a cricket playing zebra, wearing green pads, gloves and a red shirt. Dazzler a symbol of wild life in South Africa had black and white stripes depicting the blend of black and white people in South Africa.

‘Mello’ (2007 WC)

The 2007 Cricket World Cup, held in the vibrant story of the Caribbean, introduced us to a mascot that was indeed a reflection of the islands’ sunny positivity. The mascot also had a had a red ribbon on his light blue shirt to show his support to the spreading HIV epidemic.

‘Stumpy’ (2011 WC)

The 2011 World Cup saw “Stumpy” as it’s mascot. Stumpy was a 10 year old cricket playing elephant. The mascot depicted the peaceful and powerful spirit of the game. The organizers ICC to present stumpy as a peppy cricket lover who thinks cricket is the most fun sport. The tournament saw India winning the World Cup infront of the home crowd.
