The ECB on Tuesday named the squad for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia, in November. From their last series vs India at home, there are a few changes that have come in. After an uber good tour vs IND, Harry Brook has been given the vice-captaincy of the side, while Ollie Pope has been sidelined from the role.
Ollie Pope Not in Leadership Role
Other than that, with Chris Woakes injured, England has roped in now fit Mark Wood, who has recovered from his knee injury. Not just that, spinner Shoaib Bashir too is available after a finger injury ended his previous series, prematurely. Two new inclusions in the team are that of Matthew Potts and Will Jacks.
The good news for them is, skipper Ben Stokes has also recovered from his shoulder injury, that had led him to miss the final Test vs India. Meanwhile, the Ashes start from November 21 at Perth, followed by matches in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The series ends on Jan 8.
What comes as a surprise is, despite having an average series vs India, the ECB has persisted with opener Zak Crawley, who scored 290 runs in 5 matches. In 59 Tests, the Kent batter averages only 31, which reflects poorly on his career.
