DDCA introduces two new teams for Delhi Premier League, DPL 2025 player auction on July 5

DDCA introduces two new teams for Delhi Premier League, DPL 2025 player auction on July 5

South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli 6, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, and East Delhi Riders are the six original DPL teams.

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced that the second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) will feature eight instead of six teams. On June 27, DDCA accepted bids for the purchase of two new teams, New Delhi and Outer Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

DPL expands to 8 teams

DDCA director Shyam Sunder Sharma had confirmed that two teams will be added earlier this month. He also stated that the DPL 2025 season will be played in the first or second week of August but now it’s slated to start at the end of July and run for over a month.

Savita Paints Private Limited bought the Outer Delhi team for Rs 10.6 crore, while a consortium of Bheema Tolling & Traffic Solutions Private Limited and Crayon Advertising Limited got hold of the New Delhi team for Rs 9.2 crore.

This means that top players like Harshit Rana and Rishabh Pant may not be available for selection since the India white-ball tour of Bangladesh will commence on August 17. However, the likes of Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Suyash Sharma, Digvesh Rathi, Vansh Bedi, and Prince Yadav will likely feature. Perhaps even Mayank Yadav might be in action.

DPL 2025 auction on July 5

According to The Patriot, the DPL 2025 player auction will take place on July 5. Compared to other stages, DDCA is lagging. Most domestic T20 tournaments are already over and ideally, the DPL should have been held earlier. But it turns out that DDCA President Rohan Jaitley is currently on his annual vacation outside of India. This has delayed the DPL expansion.

“The process for the DPL can’t move forward without him—that’s one explanation for the delay in the auction of the two new teams and the player auction thereafter. The appointment of coaching and support staff for various teams is also pending,” he said.
