England cricket team head coach Brendon McCullum is at the risk of losing his job following the team’s miserable performance in the ongoing Ashes. Ben Stokes and co. have been embroiled in controversies, both on and off the field, during the course of their tour to Australia. A report has now claimed that McCullum has been served an ultimatum by the England and Wales Cricket Board and he will be sacked if he fails to respond appropriately.

McCullum to be sacked as England coach?

As per The Telegraph, the ECB wants McCullum to make major changes to to England’s team environment and culture. The report states that captain Ben Stokes’ opinions in a review following the Ashes will determine whether the former New Zealand cricketer will remain as coach or not. The major changes suggested by the board are intended to bring more professionalism to the England team.

It is pertinent to point out that Stokes has been supportive of McCullum, with the England captain recently stating that he believes the duo are the best to carry England cricket forward in the near future.

There is no doubt in my mind that Brendon and I are the right people to carry on doing this for the near future. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have worked with Brendon. I cannot see there being someone else who I could take this team with from where we are now to even bigger heights,” Stokes had said before the AUS vs ENG 5th Test.

England lost the Ashes in a record 11 days and have won only one match so far. They suffered three consecutive wins following which they managed to secure a win on Australian soil in the 4th Test after over 5000 days. The series loss against Australia puts England’s chances of making it to the WTC 2025/27 final in jeopardy.
