Career
Domestic career
David Miller debuted in first-class cricket during the Dolphins’ final game of the 2007–08 SuperSport Series, scoring a half-century. He also participated in eight matches of the one-day MTN Domestic Championship that season, averaging 13 runs. Additionally, he played two Pro20 Series matches, reaching the final with the Dolphins. In 2018, Miller was selected as a marquee player for the Global T20 Canada tournament and joined the Winnipeg Hawks. Later that year, he joined Durban Heat for the inaugural Mzansi Super League T20 tournament. He continued with Durban Heat in subsequent editions. In 2021, Miller was named in KwaZulu-Natal’s squad for the South African domestic season.
IPL Career
In the 2013 IPL auction, Kings XI Punjab acquired Miller for ₹6 crore. Throughout that season, he featured in all matches for his team. On 6 May 2013, Miller’s remarkable innings saw him notch the third-fastest century in IPL history, scoring an unbeaten 101 off just 38 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mohali. Virat Kohli, the opposing captain, hailed it as one of the finest IPL innings he had witnessed, despite dropping a catch when Miller was on 41. Retained by Kings XI Punjab for the 2014 season, Miller played a pivotal role in guiding his team to the finals. He was appointed captain for the 2016 season but was replaced by Murali Vijay after a string of losses. In 2020, Miller was released by Kings XI Punjab and was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in the auction. Subsequently, in the 2022 IPL auction, he was acquired by the Gujarat Titans, where his stellar performance, tallying 481 runs at an average of 68.71, was instrumental in securing the team’s maiden title.

International career
Miller received his national call-up in May 2010 following an impressive performance for South Africa A against Bangladesh A, emerging as the second-highest run-scorer. His Twenty20 International debut for South Africa came on 20 May 2010 against the West Indies in Antigua, where he replaced the injured Jacques Kallis. Miller made an impactful start, hitting a six off the sixth ball and top-scoring as South Africa clinched victory by just 1 run. Subsequently, he made his ODI debut against the West Indies, contributing with an unbeaten 23 to secure another win. Miller’s contributions extended to Zimbabwe’s tour of South Africa and the series against Pakistan in the U.A.E. He notably made his maiden ODI fifty against Zimbabwe in October 2010, and his maiden ODI century came against the West Indies in January 2015. Additionally, Miller played a crucial role in setting the record for the highest 9th wicket partnership in ICC Champions Trophy history during the 2013 semi-finals alongside Rory Kleinveldt. He was also named in a World XI side for the 2017 Independence Cup in Lahore, featuring in three T20 International matches against Pakistan.
