Felix Verdejo, a former professional boxer, was found guilty of killing Keishla Rodriguez, his pregnant girlfriend, and was handed two life terms.

Rodriguez was drugged, abducted, and drowned by Verdejo, 30, in April 2021, most likely as a result of Rodriguez’s refusal to get an abortion despite intense pressure from her lover. Over the course of the last two years, the case has generated a great deal of controversy in the Rodriguez family’s home Puerto Rico, with many calling for justice.

Felix Verdejo, who went by the moniker “El Diamante,” finishes his career with a 27-2 record. He lost by TKO in his most recent bout, which took place in 2020 when he challenged Masayoshi Nakatani for the WBO lightweight championship.

Verdejo had a successful amateur career and was once a talented lightweight who never really made it big as a professional.

In addition to being a Pan-American champion, Verdejo advanced to the 2012 Olympic quarterfinals before falling to Vasiliy Lomachenko, one of the greatest amateur boxers of all time.

After Rodríguez Ortiz was discovered in a San Juan lagoon, Verdejo, 30, was charged with kidnapping leading in death, carjacking resulting in death, purposeful killing of an unborn child, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

Verdejo was found guilty of kidnapping that resulted in death and caused the murder of an unborn child at the conclusion of the trial, which took place in the U.S. District Court of Puerto Rico, according to The Washington Post. Verdejo’s sentence was set for November 3, despite the fact that a decision on the remaining two offenses was not possible. It has now led to him spending the rest of his life imprisoned.
