Mayweather handed Canelo his first professional loss back in 2013. Nine years later, Canelo Alvarez suffered his second career loss against Dmitry Bivol in a huge upset.

Although the Mexican star returned to the win couldn’t by beating Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy and then John Ryder, he couldn’t finish any of his opponents.

41-year-old ‘GGG’ isn’t considered to be in his prime by several fans and John Ryder isn’t tagged a super-elite by many. Hence, beating them via decision didn’t fetch enough appraisals on Alvarez.

While several people cited it to be Canelo Alvarez slowing down, Floyd Mayweather gave his honest opinion.

After calling Canelo a ‘great fighter’ and comparing him with Manny Pacquiao, ‘TBE’ said, “Everyone is now saying that he [Canelo] isn’t the dame fighter, he is not looking same.”

“Now remember this, I was older than Canelo is when I beat Canelo. Imagine seeing Canelo at 36 and me at 36 and we fight.”

“Everybody is saying Canelo is slowing down, Canelo is slowing done. Remember when I was 36 years old and I was fighting a guy that was 23 with 43 fights? He said he [Canelo] didn’t have enough experience.”

“When I was 23 and if I had 47 fights, I would have been a monster.”

Floyd Mayweather retired with an unbeaten record of 50-0. That said, Canelo Alvarez has had over 60+ fights already. It remains to be seen how many more fights he has left to compete in.

Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez- Look Back at The Clash

A battle between two undefeated boxers, Canelo vs Mayweather, occurred at the MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas on September 14, 2023, for the WBA and WBC super welterweight world titles. It was a super successful event at the Box Office.

Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez is still the third-highest PV event in boxing history, standing behind only Mayweather vs McGregor and Mayweather vs Pacquiao. That said, the in-ring clash was lopsided in favor of Mayweather.

36-year-old Floyd Mayweather schooled 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez and outboxed him for all 12 rounds. Canelo remained on the wrong end of the beatdown and lost the fight via a majority decision.
