After an unfortunate fallout, Dillian Whyte was not eligible to face Anthony Joshua after failing the drug test. Soon, Matchroom Boxing brought up Robert Helenius to face Joshua as a replacement opponent in order to save the PPV. As noted, Joshua vs Whyte had a big potential and was indeed a big money fight for both competitors. Unfortunately, it didn’t take place. As per the reports, the fight would have filled the pockets of both fighters with more than $25 million in total.
However, now Joshua defeated Helenius in Saturday night’s main event. Reportedly, AJ won’t earn a much bigger fight purse for his match against the Finland boxer. In his previous fight with Jermaine Franklin, he earned $10 million. Surely this time, he will bag an insane 7 figure fight purse worth $10 million with 60 TO 70% PPV sales.
The two men featured in a 12-round battle in the main event. Helenius, who was a replacement opponent for Joshua, put up a great start to the match with combination jabs and punches. Meanwhile, AJ dodged and countered them with light and heavy jabs. Eventually, AJ corned his opponent with progressive rounds until he landed a brutal right hand to knock down the big man. Despite an early knockout, Helenius did trouble Joshua in the start.
