The rivalry between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin yet again lived up to its expectations as the duo faced each other in the Denmark Open semifinal on Saturday, 21st October. Both the players were involved in a fierce battle with Marin finally winning the contest 21-18, 19-21, 21-7.

There was one particular moment in the contest when there was a heated argument between both the players. It resulted in both of them being given a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The incident happened in the deciding game. Marin was leading 7-2. Sindhu conceded another point to her opponent as she failed to hit back the shuttle to the other side of the net.

While Sindhu was about to scoop it back to Marin, the Spaniard was quick to retrieve back the shuttle from Sindhu’s side. This resulted in a heated exchange of words between both the players. Soon the chair umpire flashed out the yellow cards to both the players.

Earlier in the contest too the umpire initially called both the players to tone down their celebrations after winning points.
But Marin continued to scream and celebrate while Sindhu was warned twice for taking longer time in receiving serve.

Sindhu suffers successive semifinal losses

After managing to take the match into the decider, Sindhu was completely outplayed in the third game. Carolina Marin finally won the 70-minute battle and let out a yell as Sindhu’s campaign in the tournament came to a crashing end.

The World No.12 Indian has now bowed out from successive semifinals in the tour this season. Last week she lost in the Arctic Open semifinal against China’s Wang Zhi Yi.
