PV Sindhu shows glimpses of return to form, beats WR-7 GM Tunjung at Denmark Open

Indian star PV Sindhu won the Round of 16 match against the Indonesian GM Tunjung 18-21, 21-15, 21-13.

This year, every victory that Indian ace PV Sindhu has come up with, has come at a high premium. Such has been her form, that the former world no. 2 Sindhu is yet to win a title this year, and has struggled against the top opponents. But for a change, on Thursday, she recorded a win over GM Tunjung of Indonesia, in the round of 16, at the Denmark Open. PV Sindhu won in three games, 18-21, 21-15, 21-13.

Interestingly, this was her first win over Tunjung this year. In the Spain Masters final, Sindhu lost to her Indonesian opponent, and then in the following week, registered another loss against the same opponent, in the Malaysia Masters semis. Having said that, this is PV Sindhu’s eighth win over GM Tunjung.

PV Sindhu Gives Early Warning Signs

What was fascinating about Sidhu in the match was the way she attacked the net, and covered the court well, something which was missing in her game after her injury last year. In the last games, while trailing 10-13, the Indian displayed her best-attacking game and scored the next 11 points to win the match.

In the last competition at the Arctic Open too, Sindhu had managed to reach the semis and lost to Wang Zhi Yi of China. Prior to that, she had beaten the former world no. 1 Nozomi Okuhara of Japan.
