World-beaters who will be star attractions in Asian Games – Check Out

The upcoming Asian Games will witness some top world-beaters in action, who will be the star attractions in the event.

China is gearing up to host the Asian Games 2023. The 19th edition of the quadrennial event, will take place after a gap of five years this time. Thousands of athletes from across the continent will feature in the tournament. The event is also set to see some of the big names who are dominating the world in their respective sporting disciplines at the moment.

The Games will officially kick-start on 23rd September at Hangzhou, China. The 15-day event is set to witness action across 481 sporting events until 8th October 2023. Check out some of the top global stars who will be in action in the upcoming editon of the Asian Games.

Mutaz Barshim – High Jump

Qatar’s Mutaz Bashim will be one among the biggest stars who will be in action in the upcoming Asian Games. The 32-year old is a three-time World Champion and is also the reigning Olympic champion. He also has two Asian Games Gold medals in his kitty.

Apart from his achievements. Bashim also won the hearts of the sports fraternity at the Tokyo Olympics. He showed exemplary sportsmanship spirit as he agreed to share the gold medal with Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi after both the athletes were tied for the top spot in the High Jump finals.

The reigning Olympic champion missed the previous edition due to an ankle injury. He will return to the event this year and eyes his third straight gold medal.

Ma Long – Table Tennis

34-year old Ma Long, considered as the greatest Table Tennis player, will be in action at the Asian Games in front of his home crowd. The Chinese is currently ranked World No.3 in Men’s Singles.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he created history by becoming the first-ever paddler in the World to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals. He much recently bagged the gold in the Asian Table Tennis Championships.

He is the favourite to finish at the top of the podium in the upcoming Asiad as well. Ma Long won an Asiad gold medal in singles in 2010. He has also been part of three successful gold medal winning Chinese teams in 2010, 2014 and 2018 editions.

Tai Tzu Ying – Badminton

All eyes will be on Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying. The 29-year old is eyeing her second successive Asian Games gold in Women’s Singles. She is currently ranked World No.4 and is also the defending champion at the Asian Championships.

Tai Tzu Ying has a stellar career. Her notable achievements include winning a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She also has a silver and a bronze medal in the World Championships. She has three gold medals and a bronze in the Asian Championships.

In the upcoming edition, she will be facing challenge from World No.1 An Se-young, Akane Yamaguchi and Chinese counterparts Chen Yu Fei and He Bing Jiao. However she hopes to continue her supremacy in the continental tournament.

Winfred Yavi – Women’s 3000m Steeplechase

Winfred Yavi is dominating the world circuit in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase. The 23-year old from Bahrain recently clinched her maiden World Championship title at the Budapest. She defeated much fancied world record holder Beatrrice Chepkoech by clocking 8 minutes 54.29 seconds. It was the fourth fastest finish in the history of Women’s 3000m Steeplechase.

The youngster is also the defending champion in the Asiad. She won the gold in the last edition after clocking 9:36.52. The Bahranian is expected to dominate the circuit yet again in the upcoming continental event.
