It was the overwhelming favourite Anderson Peters, who continued his impressive 2022 form to take gold. He threw the spear a distance of 90.54 to emerge victorious. Jakub Vadlejch finished third with a throw of 88.09m.
As for Neeraj, the conditions were not great for him, and felt the wind speed was too high. “While conditions were not good & the wind speed was too high, I was confident I would perform well. I am satisfied with the result, I am happy I was able to win a medal for my country,” ANI quoted Neeraj as saying on Twitter.
If one looks at his performance in the men’s javelin throw final, his words makes sense. The javelin thrower is known to have a great throw in his first attempt. Be it the Olympics or other events, he has piled pressure on opponents with a great throw in his first attempt.

But that did not happen in Oregon. His first throw was a foul. In fact, of the six throws, only three were registered. His three throws in the final read 82.39, 86.37 and 88.13. At the end it was his fifth throw, which helped him win a historic medal. With it, he became the second Indian athlete, after Anju Bobby George, to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships.
If one looks at Anderson, he was song throughout the contest. All his six throws were legal. Of his six attempts, first three crossed the 90m mark, showcasing his dominance in the final.
