Tejaswin Shankar wins silver in Decathlon, celebrates shirtless after breaking National record

Tejaswin Shankar broke his own National record in the Decathlon and also bagged the silver medal at the Asian Games

Six athletes, all soaked in sweat were all smiles after finishing two days of gruelling action in Athletics at the Asian Games. The six men can surely be called the ‘strongest men of track and field’ as they put their body on the line to compete in the Decathlon.

While finishing all the 10 events successfully itself is no mean feat, India had much more to celebrate as Tejaswin Shankar bettered his own national record and bagged the silver medal in Decathlon at the Asian Games on Tuesday, 3rd October.

Tejaswin Shankar finished second with an overall score of 7666 points. In the last event, which is the 1500m, Shankar finished fourth with a timing of 4:48.32 minutes and scored 629 points.

While all the athletes fell to the floor exhausted after the race, Tejaswin Shankar was the lone man standing as he congratulated every competitor. He also succeeded in making everyone pose with an inconic shirtless pose.

Tejaswin Shankar ends 49-year wait for Asiad Medal in Decathlon

With the silver medal, Tejaswin Shankar won India’s first medal in Decathlon at the Asian Games in 49 years. The last Indian to win a medal in the event was Suresh Babu in the 1974 edition.

Ace high-jumper-turned-decathlon athlete also broke a 11-year old national record. Bharatinder Singh held the National record with 7658 points. He won the silver medal after finishing 150 points behind China’s Sun Qihao.
