PM Modi meets Asian Para Games gold medal winning 16-year old Kashmiri Archer

Following her exceptional show at the Asian Para Games, India's 16-year old armless archer had a special meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi

Following their record-breaking show at the recently concluded Asian Para Games, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met all the medal winning Indian para-athletes, hailing their performance.

While Modi met all the para-athletes at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. one particular meeting stood out. In recognition of her exceptional show at the multi-national event, Modi met a 16-year old armless archer from Jammu and Kashmir in a special one-on-one session.

Sheetal Devi, who was born without arms bagged three medals at the recent Asian Para Games. The World’s first armless female archer shoots with her leg and she exhibited unparalled skills, defying all odds. Out of her three medals, she also emerged as the champion in the individual compound event by winning the gold medal.

PM Narendra Modi met the teen sensation and congratulated her for the outstanding achievements. According to reports, he lauded her as a symbol of resilience and grit.

‘Your achievements are an inspiration to the nation’

Overall at the Asian Para Games 2023, India won a total of 111 medals. Addressing the athletes, Modi said,“Whatever hurdles you have overcome is the biggest contribution from you to the country.”

“Many of you have lived with disability since birth, and many of you have suffered mishaps. Your achievements are an inspiration to the nation and a victory of human spirit over adversity.”
