Indian Archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale won gold medal in the Archery Mixed team compound event at the Asian Games on Wednesday. This medal holds a significant importance as it is the 71st medal for the country in this edition of the Games. With this, India has registered its best-ever show in the history of the continental event, going past the previous best of 70 medals from the previous edition at Jakarta.

The Indian duo pipped the South Korean pair of So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon to claim gold. This is India’s 16th gold medal and also the first medal from Archery in this edition.
In a gold medal clash between the top-two seeds, the No. 1 Indian pair was near perfect and pipped So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon 159-158. The Indians started off the contest with a perfect 40 and the Koreans shot just a solitary nine as the scores were 40-39.
There was then very little to separate both the pairs as they shot perfect 40 in the next end. In the third end, the Indians dropped a point as the scores were level 119-119 heading into the fourth end. The Koreans shot 39, while the Indians came back with yet another perfect score to clinch the gold medal.
Indian Archers assure three more medals in Hangzhou Asian Games
Earlier in the day, India began the proceedings by defeating Malaysia 158-155 in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, the Indian pair went on to defeat Kazakhstan 159-154.
The Indian archers had on Tuesday confirmed three medals to match their best-ever feat of Incheon 2014 at the continental showpiece.
