China’s Li Zhangyu celebrating his Asian Para Games win with his son will melt your heart

Multiple Paralympic medallist Li Zhangyu’s joy knew no bounds as he successfully defended his gold medal at the Asian Para Games. The veteran cyclist won the gold medal in the Cycling Mixed Team C1-5 750m Final in front of his home crowd. In a heartwarming moment, an emotional Li Zhangyu jumped in joy like a child himself after bagging the gold medal. He then rushed to his son to share the moment with him at the Chun’an Jieshou Sports Centre Velodrome.

Embracing his son amidst the applause from the home crowd, the multiple Paralympic champion truly showed what it means to win an Asian Para Games medal. He won the gold along with his two teammates Wu Guoqing and Lai Shanzhang.

Li Zhangyu and Shanzhang were part of the team that bagged the golf in the same cycling event in the last edition of the Asian Para Games as well. With individual events set to get underway in the upcoming days, Zhangyu will look to add more medals to his tally.

Who is Li Zhangyu?

Li Zhangyu has been competing for a decade now in Cycling. He is one of the most decorated para cyclist, who achieved hat-trick of gold medals in Palaympics.

He is in the C1 category of impairment. It is classified as severe hemiplegic or diplegic spasticity; severe athetosis or ataxia; bilateral through knee amputation, etc.

Li Zhangyu made his debut in Paralympics in 2012. The Chinese bagged the gold medal in the 1km time trial C1-3 back then.

He went on to defend his gold medal in 2016 and 2020 Paralympics. The veteran has also won multiple titles at the World Championships and numerous medals in Asian Para Games.
