There were a few medals that stood out, and some back stories of athletes that touched everyone’s hearts. One such athlete was 35 km walk specialist Ram Baboo who won the bronze medal at the Asian Games.

A video that had surfaced online, showed Ram Baboo working as a laborer under the MNREGA scheme, during the COVID-19 lockdown. Upon returning from the Asian Games, he opened up about his situation. It was later revealed to the world that his family income is not more than INR 3000 per month.

In an interview, Ram Baboo said, “I have done everything possible in my life so far, from working as a waiter in Varanasi to digging up pits along with my father for road construction under the MGNREGA scheme in our village.”

So after his stupendous effort, businessman Anand Mahindra has come forward to help him. In a tweet offering help to Ram Baboo, Mahindra wrote, “Daily wage worker to Asian Games Medallist. Unstoppable courage & determination. Please give me his contact number @thebetterindia. I’d like to support his family by giving them any tractor or pickup truck of ours they want.”
