Asian Para Games: North Korea withdraws from event due to flag ban? Details here

The WADA had disallowed North Korea, the use of their flag at the Asian Para Games, following which the nation withdrew.

After their participation in the recently concluded Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, North Korea has withdrawn its participation from the Asian Para Games. The move has come after their flag was banned at the event. After their non-compliance with the WADA rules, North Korea was barred from playing under their flag at the Asian Para Games, which was not acceptable to the nation.

Earlier in October 2021, North Korea’s anti-doping agency was declared non-compliant with WADA.

North Korea had tightly sealed its borders right after COVID-19 and had missed the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as well. At the Asian Games, they sent a 191-member contingent, who won 39 medals in all, including 11 golds. Their athletes took part in events like athletics, gymnastics, basketball, football, boxing, and weightlifting.

North Korea was supposed to end its non-participation at a weightlifting competition in Cuba in June, but that didn’t happen. For the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, they were banned for not being part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Finally, the border restrictions eased out a bit in North Korea, and they were part of a taekwondo competition in Kazakhstan.
