Asian Games: Nandini Agasara gives fiery response to Swapna Barman’s allegations

Nandini Agasara went on to say that Swapna Barma should have thought before defaming India in a foreign land.

A day after her heptathlon bronze medal win, India’s Nandini Agasara was called a ‘trans woman’ by compatriot Swapna Barman, in a tweet. That has obviously not gone down well with the youngster, who was participating in her first international tournament. In a quick interview with Sportstar, Agasara said that she won’t let Barman get away with this.

“I will definitely take it up with the federation. I will not leave this lightly. I won my first international medal, here at the Asian Games, and I wanted to enjoy it a little but I have not got a chance to do even that. Why did she not say anything when I started competing? How can someone say something like this about another woman.”

Swapna Barma had tweeted that Nandini Agasara was a trans woman but later deleted her post.

Interestingly, not only did Agasara beat Barman at the Asian Games, and robbed her of the bronze medal, but had also pipped the latter at the Inter-State competition last month. This could have angered the 2018 gold medalist at the Asian Games.

“We only think of winning medals for India, I knew nothing when I started only that I have to do well in sports and get medals for the country. Now that I have won, all these trolls have come out. Whenever someone starts getting successful, there are always many to pull them down. But this is not about me at all, I am sad that she did not think before defaming India’s name in a foreign country,” Nandini continued.
